Objective To observe the effect of open reduction and intramedullary nailing in the treatment of pediatric femoral shaft fracture. Methods Twenty-six children with femoral shaft fractures were treated with open reduction and intramedullary nail fixation, postoperative skin traction of the lower extremities or wearing “T” shaped shoes for 3-4 weeks. Results The follow-up ranged from 6 to 48 months. None of the patients had fracture non-union, delayed healing or needle-pulling difficulties. There were 2 cases of ipsilateral short 10 ~ 1 5cm shorter than the healthy side, 5 cases long 0.6 ~ 18cm, no obvious limp, lower extremity function completely normal. Conclusion Children’s femoral shaft fractures should not be summarized as a contraindication for the treatment of intramedullary nailing. As long as the appropriate choice of cases, intramedullary nailing treatment, with the achievement of anatomic reduction, hospitalization time is short, quick recovery, no complications, etc.
