人名翻译之争古已有之,时至今日人名翻译仍较混乱,而文学作品的人名翻译更是如此。普通人名尚且涉及文化、宗教、习俗、道德、父母期望等因素影响,何况是文学作品的人名。看似简单的人名翻译给译者带来了极大挑战。本文探讨《喜福会》的主人公人名汉译,望能为文学作品的人名翻译研究添砖加瓦,同时望能为翻译教学提供实例。
The dispute over names translation has existed for a long time, and the translation of names is still confusing today, especially for the translation of names of literary works. Ordinary names are still involved in culture, religion, customs, ethics, parental expectations and other factors, not to mention the names of literary works. Seemingly simple name translation has brought great challenges to the translator. This article explores the Chinese translation of the names of the heroes of the “Joy Luck Club” in the hope that they will contribute more to the study of name translation of literary works and hopefully provide examples for translation teaching.
