For thousands of years, the relationship between peasants and land is thicker than water and dependent on one another. They are two indispensable terms. However, the practice of China’s reform and opening up proved that the peasants’ continuous stripping out of the land is the only way out for the modernization of rural China. As we put the hope of realizing a well-to-do society on the road to urbanization, urbanization and industrialization have opened a new chapter in the ancient land of China. The opening of cities and towns has changed the mode of production that has remained unchanged for thousands of years on land, and has also spun off peasant farmers who have been unable to make ends meet for a time. A new social group expanded rapidly as a result: landless peasants. They say they are peasants who have no land. They say they are not peasants. They wander the edge of the city. Those who have just lost the bottom line of land are hoping to gain the same opportunities as urban people. Social security supports the future life. They are often disappointed; they are in a weaker position and face the helplessness of the future. They worry us and even provoke us to think deeply.
