In order to clarify the status quo of mountain herdsmen’s perception and adaptation to climate change trends and extreme climate events, 418 households of herder families in Ye Niu Gou Township of Qilian County of Qinghai Province, Dahe Township of Sunan County of Gansu Province and Qilian Township of Tianzhu County were enrolled Visits and questionnaires. The results showed that pastoralists were more aware of the local temperature increase over the past 20 years, less aware of the change of precipitation, and more aware of extreme climate events that had a greater impact on pastoral husbandry. Pastoralists have taken a differentiated response to the different extreme climate events felt. Forage preparation, construction of pens and warm greenhouses, handling of livestock and migrant workers are major adaptation measures. Livestock services, loan support and a more complete social security system have a positive effect on improving herders’ ability to adapt to climate change.
