“水墨”的出现,应当是在毛笔和墨的发明之际,这说起来就很久远了。但将它作为一种独立的艺术语言体系运用在艺术创造中,应该是在宋以后了,尤其是明清文人画的集大成,将这种语言体系推到极致,至今不衰,依然具有很强的生命力。 在读过了刘秉贤的花鸟画作品之后,感到他在两个方面所做努力,颇值得称道:一是对“笔墨”的认识和运用,一是对“随意性”的气氛。由于他所做的这些努力带有普遍性,所以也很值得进一步讨论。
