铁路自动闭塞区间列车追踪运行间隔时间的长短,直接关系着铁路运输效率;缩短间隔时间,即可增开列车对数。原《铁路工程技术规范》规定:“三显示自动闭塞,一般按10min列车运行时隔划分为三个闭塞分区排列信号机……。”这10min是参照苏联规定制订的。由于铁路运量增加、机车马力和速度加大等原因,后在一些运输繁忙区段已将10min改为8min。近年在京沪线南京至滁县的双线区间,为了提高通过能力,曾针对南京枢纽地区运能紧张状态提出过改造
