Phototoxic skin responses, including photoirritation, photoallergy, and photogenotoxicity, to systemically or topically administered drugs are frequently reported as adverse drug reactions.Increasing experimental and epidemiological evidence points to the involvement of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and free radicals in the phototoxic skin responses.Previously, we suggested that the determination of ROS, generated from the photoirradiated compounds, would be useful to evaluate the photoreactivity of pharmaceutical substances.
