《名义》“旵,昌字”条补证

由时当中国唐代的日僧释空海撰写的《篆隶万象名义》是一部重要的汉语中古字书。《名义》日部云:“旵,昌字。”根据这条注释,“旵”应理解为“昌”之异。但由于此说本身没有提供坚实的证据,故其多不为后世字书取信,专门研究《名义》的学者也多将其视作误书。笔者认为,《名义》所谓“旵,昌字”之说,可能并非空海杜撰,而是原本《玉篇》的本来记录。通过查核地下出土的写本文字资料,可以为这种记录提供切实佐证。“旵”,《说文》未收,宋本《玉篇》谓:“丑减切,日光照也。”上下切字或有更换,但整体读音未变。后世关于“旵”字音义的解释,基本上都是沿袭《玉篇》诸书的说法。从目前所掌握的资料来看,“旵”的产生时代应该不会很早。另外《玉篇》山部还有一个“(山日)”字,从写法上看,“旵”、“(山日)”二字关系密切,一个从“日”在“山”上,一个“日”在“山”下,前者义为“日光照”,后者为“日欲夜”,皆为会意字。
