The diet of women of childbearing age contains the potential health effects of essential fatty acids from fish. Adequate amounts of dietary fat are essential for health and are especially important before and during pregnancy and lactation. Essential fatty acids on the normal growth and development of infants is extremely important. The concept of strengthening the diet of women of childbearing age (and their families) before and during pregnancy rather than after childbirth is more likely to have a lasting health impact than any other measure. However, the evidence proving this type of intervention is contradictory. In this article, extensive reviews of existing literature have been made and further application studies have been identified in populations that require maize-based diets in Africa
