On January 25, 1905, Frederick, the director of the South African diamond mine, suddenly saw a glistening thing in the mine, which he revealed with a knife. It was sized to resemble an adult’s fist. After identification, this is the world’s largest diamond, weighing 3106 carats, and has become a sensational news for a while. The owner gave Frederick a £3,500 (equivalent to the current $210,000) fee and named the diamond in the name of the company’s president, Sir Karinan. The government of South Africa’s Ten Thousand Provinces of Deland spent the equivalent of today’s huge sum of US$9 million to buy this diamond and use ten times the amount to cover the risk.
