毛白杨是我县优良的速生树种,干形通直,生长快,材质好,树形美观,深受广大群众的欢迎。但是,几年来,有的地方由于栽植后缺乏科学管理,致使栽植后三、四年内生长不良,幼树弯腰,侧枝下垂,主干不长,皮色黑灰,霉污病、蚜虫等病虫危害严重,特别是定植后的第一年,如果管理不好,就会形成“小老树”。过几年之后,根系逐渐发达,才能抽出新枝,灰复生长。由于缺乏科学管理带来的后果,严重影响着毛白杨的迅速发展。有的人就把这种现象当作规律,认为毛白杨定植后都要经过一个“缓苗期”,流传着“毛白杨栽上后头几年不长”的说法,更使人们对这个优良的速生树种产生怀疑,失去培育的信心。
