Frank Smith, a world-renowned cognitive psychologist and linguist, pioneered a new field of reading theory at Harvard University with a series of studies on the physiological phenomena in reading. He is one of the important pioneers in the use of modern psycholinguistics in reading instruction. “Understanding Reading” is a theoretical work mainly for reading teachers. The author provides a summary for each chapter, which is the fifth chapter of the compilation. It mainly talks about the interaction between the eyes and the brain during reading.
