沈昌文1931年9月26日生于上海。历任人民出版社校对员、秘书、编辑、主任、副总编辑。1986年至1995年期间任生活·读书·新知三联书店总经理兼《读书》杂志主编,出版有房龙《宽容》等著名书籍,著有《阁楼人语》《书商的旧梦》《知道》等。沈昌文的“三无”意为:无能,无为,无我。某日忽然读到Silverstein的诗配画:A Light in the Attic,里边说:阁楼里亮着一盏灯……我从屋外瞧见那灯火,而我知道你人在屋内……正望着我。于是,恍然大悟,在阁楼里可以做得大事,中外通例。我辈阁楼中人绝不可自怨自艾,更不必自轻自贱。要时刻想到,阁楼外有那么多眼睛望着自己,彼此相睇,心灵相通。
