The Danish and Australian Navy have ordered a new high-precision mine-bomblet developed by Nordic Defense Industries of Denmark. The initial production of the Danish DAMDIC was delivered in 1997. In the late 1980s, the Danish Navy carried out a wide range of identification of active multi-type detonation bombs. The identification revealed that none of the mine-bombs used at that time fully met the Danish Navy’s safety, technical and operational requirements and that its existing mechanical safety devices needed to be improved so that the Danish Navy’s Materiel Command chose to develop a new type of Thunder bomb. The acoustic conditions of the Baltic Sea make acoustic transmission less than 100% reliable. Therefore, unlike most active in-mine bombs, the detonation of DAMDIC is controlled by the anti-mine fleet over conductors instead of using acoustic signals.
