Acupuncture was born in ancient China. This therapy has been used to treat many chronic conditions and pain. In Western countries, radio frequency electrical stimulation has been studied since the middle of the last century to relieve the pain and to develop transdermal nerve stimulation to control pain. In 1973, Plog started the first experiment of laser therapy in the field of acupuncture by replacing the metal needle with a light beam. Krog built the first device for a helium-neon laser needling system. According to Plog, the authors designed a laser system that uses a pulsed beam of light to pass through an optical fiber and intermittently irradiate it to stimulate points on the meridian. In 1978, in cooperation with Fuji Photonics - Optical Co., Ltd., Japan produced the first nitrogen-neon laser acupuncture system prototype.
