同时,代表性女性形象不仅塑造了中国读者的意识形态,发挥了显著的社会功能,而且对中国文学颇有改良作用.“,”This article demonstrates the decisive role that mainstream ideologies have played in constructing the identities of the representative women's images in Chinese translated literature via the selection of source texts in different periods of the 20th century, and unearths the social functions and literary influences of these figures. It is argued that the major reason why some women's images in Chinese translated literature became representative characters of their times lies in that either they supported mainstream ideologies of the then Chinese society owing to the particular qualities embodied by them or they were held up as exemplary models by mainstream ideologies for people to follow. The representative women's images in turn not only produced a significant social impact by shaping Chinese readers' ideologies but also reformed the poetics of Chinese literature.
