“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,”so goes the saying. But there are places and buildings that can take your breath away[使……大为惊讶] by just looking at them. We look at some campuses that have beautiful and well thought-out buildings and grounds. However, beauty is subjective[主观的]. So make your own judgment if these are the most beautiful campuses.
  University of Cambridge, UK
Established[建立] in the early 13th Century, Cambridge is regarded as very beautiful, and also one of the best universities in the world. The most famous building at Cambridge, King’s College Chapel[小礼拜堂], is a great example of Gothic architecture注1.
University of Cape Town, South Africa
Set against the unique background of natural South Africa, Cape Town University is the second oldest university in Africa. The main campus area is located near the slopes[斜坡] of Devil’s Peak, with the mountains casting[投射(光线等)] shadows over the main buildings. There’re also lions on campus. Maybe.
  Moscow State University, Russia
It may look more like a luxury[奢侈] hotel, but you can’t deny that Moscow State University is impressive—especially when lit up at night. One of the best universities in Russia, its main building is said to be the largest educational structure in the world.
  University of Otago, New Zealand
Situated in the already picturesque[如画的] scenery[景色] of New Zealand, this university’s campus simply builds off of the natural beauty around it. The buildings combine both the old and new, while blending seamlessly[无缝地] with the green spaces and the Leith River winding[蜿蜒] through the heart of campus. It also has lovely cherry blossoms.
  University of Oxford, UK
Oxford is a rather attractive university. Although it does not have a central “campus,” its 38 unique colleges are each beautiful in their own respect[某方面]. Highlights include Christ Church, Magdalen College, and New College. Centuries of various architecture can be found within meters of each other, and it truly makes visiting Oxford a magical experience.
  The University of Sydney, Australia
Sydney University’s beautiful neo-Gothic注2 quadrangle[方院,方庭] was designed by the architect[建筑师] Edmund Blacket in the 1850s. The Great Hall, loosely based on the Great Hall of Westminster, is particularly admired.
  Aarhus University, Denmark
Planned and constructed in the 1930s, while still continuing construction into today, Aarhus University is one of the more recent schools on the list. The campus has a unified look, achieved by fitting all buildings with yellow brick. Its location within a hilly park forms an inviting[有魅力的] place to take a stroll[漫步].
  University of Rostock, Germany
Rostock is one of the oldest universities in the world, with its beginnings dating back to 1419. However, it has continued to develop in the 21st Century, with modern buildings like the library contrasting with older architecture for the main building and the Institute of Anatomy[解剖学].
  Peking University, China
The unique aspect[方面] of this campus is its location—the former Qing Dynasty royal gardens. Many beautiful traditional Chinese structures, such as pagodas[宝塔], bridges, houses and gardens remain because of this historical link, and many travel to northwest Beijing to tour the campus.
  Harvard University, USA
Harvard is the oldest university in America, dating back to 1636, and is famous for its red brick buildings and treefilled courtyards. The oldest building is Massachusetts Hall where the university’s president has his offices.

Yale University’s architecture ranges from[从……到] pretty 18th-century red brick colleges to striking[惊人的] modernist[现代主义者] structures. Many of its famous neoGothic buildings were built in the early 20th century. Architect James Gamble Rogers used tricks like splashing acid[酸] on stone walls to make the buildings look more aged.
  University of Salamanca, Spain
A must-see in western Spain is Salamanca University, founded in the 13th century and largely built in a Spanish style known as “plateresque[带复杂花叶形装饰的].” The exterior[外部] is covered in particularly beautiful carvings, including one of a frog perched[放置] on a skull which is said to bring luck to those who spot it.
Personally, I can’t understand why she finds him attractive, but they do say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.(就我个人的看法,我真不明白她为什么觉得他有吸引力,不过他们也说,情人眼里出西施嘛。)
Bob: I can’t believe Ted bought that ugly old car.(我真不敢相信特德买了那辆又丑又旧的车子。)
Fred: He loves it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.(他超爱那辆车,所谓“萝卜白菜,各有所爱”。)
