Titanium and its alloys is a new metal material. The strength of titanium alloy is about 2 to 3 times that of aluminum alloy and 5 times that of magnesium alloy, so it can be used with alloy steel. Its elastic modulus is about half that of steel, but higher than that of aluminum and magnesium. Its weight is 4.5, about 56% of iron. In addition, titanium and its alloys also have high temperature corrosion resistance. All of these fine qualities make this metal material of great utility in engineering. At present, titanium is mainly used in the aviation industry. According to the literature, the supersonic aircraft under design needs 40% of titanium and may increase to 60% in the future. It can be expected that as long as the method of reducing the smelting cost of titanium is employed, this metal material can also be widely used in other engineering fields as well.
