明清时期,小说编创与评点始终处在一种交互影响的动态发展过程之中。以世情小说为例,其“末流”艳情小说的编创就是在“先师不删郑卫”、“以欲写情”和“以淫止淫”等编创理念的指导下进行的;其“异流”才子佳人小说虽力戒艳情小说编创的弊端,却又在不同程度上偏离了世情小说的写实原则,引起了不少评点者的不满与批驳,致使此后的作者在描写才子佳人的风流韵事时自觉地涉笔世情,杂糅战争、侠义、艳情等内容,导致了该类小说文体的变革;至于世情小说的“主流”《醒世姻缘传》、《红楼梦》等,则以“描摹世态,见其炎凉”为旨趣,以写真实、合情理为原则,理论与实践相辅相成,终于将该类小说的创作推向了前无古人的艺术高峰。可见,小说编创与评点的互动,对小说创作史与评点史均产生了实质性的影响。
