The national People’s Congress (nPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held their annual sessions in Beijing from March 5 to 15 and March 3 to 13, respectively.
It was the third session of both the 12th NPC and the 12th CPPCC National Committee, which had started their five-year term in 2013. The NPC deputies are elected by people’s congresses from China’s provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and represent all Chinese people in making decisions on state affairs at the annual sessions.
Members of the CPPCC National Committee, the highest advisory body to the Chinese Government, are chosen from the Communist Party of China, other parties, organizations, ethnic groups and various sectors of society.
Both the Chinese and international media covered the sessions intensively. Beijing Review recaps the events with a selection of photographs.
