Chinese traditional music and calligraphy are both expressive arts and are based on a common soil of national culture during their development. Both of them have strong commonalities in many aspects such as the aesthetic concepts they convey and their artistic expressions. After summarizing the commonness of the two, the article elaborates on the differences between the two forms of artistic expression and makes appropriate connections with the theoretical achievements of Western art and aesthetics. This is not a simple cut on China’s artistic achievements from a Western-centered standpoint. Instead, it draws on the Western rational censorship system to interpret some of the traits of Chinese traditional art in greater depth, Is a more accurate definition of the difference between plus and minus, as a theoretical exploration of the inheritance and protection of our national arts.
