The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will introduce new regulatory requirements that will extend the deadline for meeting the original statutory requirements by two years (the original rule is that all thermal power units meet the emission requirements by 2018; the new law is 2020), the U.S. Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) evaluated various options implemented by power companies to meet existing and new regulatory requirements and found that $ 100 billion could be saved if programs that meet the requirements of the new regulations are implemented. If the original regulatory requirements are met, the cost of emission control technology will reach 275 billion U.S. dollars.
