Ovum said Ten Asia and NHN, the larger OTT service companies in Asia, are seizing the opportunities in the social messaging market to expand their presence in foreign markets. Ovum latest report shows that in September 2012, Tencent WeChat’s users exceeded 200 million, while NHN’s Line users exceeded 60 million. Mark Ranson, an Ovum mass market analyst, said, “Tencent, with its notable reputation for messaging, digital games and social networking services, has a long-term view of WeChat and has gradually built up a massive User base. ”“ Tencent has learned from experience that scale building and user loyalty are the keys to long-term profitability in the value-added services market. The WeChat Digital Gaming Center planned by Tencent is likely the best chance of generating revenue from services. ”
