  About the Author
  Liu Jiyuan, born in 1933, graduated in 1960 from the Bauman Moscow State Technical University majoring in automatic control. He has served successively as the head of 12th Institute of Seventh Ministry of Machine-Building, deputy director of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, vice minister of the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, general manager of Aerospace Industry Corporation and director of China National Space Administration, 14th and 15th Central Committee member, 9th and 10th standing committee of National People’s Congress. In 2011, he was granted the Von Karman Award by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), which is the highest award in the field of aerospace.
  Content Abstract
  To begin with the summary of the course of development of China’s space industry and achieved success in the past 50 years, this book explores how China’s space industry has gained success from five aspects of institutional innovation, operating mechanism, management mode, team building and cultural atmosphere. On this basis, this book answers why China’s space industry can achieve a great success in such a short time from three levels: working methods, thinking methods and spiritual motivation.

  The aerospace industry is the concentrated demonstration of the development level of high-technology, which is an important indicator for measure of a country’s comprehensive power and international competitiveness.   China’s space industry has always taken the innovation-driven as the strategic basis for development. This innovation-driven system includes six important aspects: the first is the emphasis on study of innovation strategies, the second is the emphasis on construction of innovation platform, the third is the emphasis on building of innovation teams, the fourth is the emphasis on implementation of intellectual property rights, the fifth is the emphasis on investment in technological innovation, and the sixth is the emphasis on creation of innovation culture. Continuous innovation – this is exactly the successful method and philosophy for development of China’s space industry.
