This paper analyzes the relationship between the minimum wage and the consumer price index (CPI) by using the panel data of 31 provincial-level administrative regions across the country from 1994 to 2013. The results show that raising the minimum wage has a significant positive impact on CPI. By studying the conduction mechanism of the minimum wage affecting the price, we find that the minimum wage mainly affects the CPI through the cost channel. That is, the wage increase directly increases the labor cost of some labor-intensive enterprises and the corresponding enterprises are difficult to improve the production technology in a short period of time And labor efficiency to make up for the increase in labor costs, can only increase the price of the corresponding goods and services, thereby contributing to this part of the consumer price increases.
