Hughes Aircraft Company is requesting funding from the U.S. Air Force to demonstrate a new expandable wing design that validates the range of airborne weapons that can be expanded. This ring-shaped wing scheme has the characteristics of low resistance, internal conformal mounting and not easily detected. The company is working on using it for non-guided bombs and the company’s own “kin” air-to-surface missiles.
