名片古已有之,汉代就较为通行,只不过那时不叫名片,称为名刺、名谒、名帖等。就中外历史上看,面积最大的名片是清代李鸿章出使美国期间特制的那张长六尺的名片;而体积最大的又是清代乾隆年间,高丽国宰相李银为向郑板桥索取字画送来的高一尺二寸、阔五寸、厚半寸、如“金版玉片”的名片;最贵重的名片要数日本三菱公司推出的厚十五微米、重一克、加有封套的纯金嘉庆礼仪名片。
