This project was commissioned by Buddhist monks from Mount Wutai to devise a new place for practicing Buddhism. The first task is to confirm the function and aesthetic value that define the nature of Buddhist life. This generates the most appropriate expression of these core qualities, giving time, place feel the priority. Even in the absence of some examples of architectural vocabulary, design remains true to the essence of devout believers. The program needs to talk to many important contexts, from the structure of the site to the historical appearance of what Buddhism practices as a meditation space in history. The metaphor of different scales clearly reveals the frame of the landscape view: the traffic flow gradually leads into a pleasant state; and restraint is made of materials such as concrete, wood and paper doors: each node clearly expresses the purity of Buddhist aesthetics.
