An advanced mid-range air-to-air missile (AMRAAM) AIM-120A, measuring 3.66 meters long and weighing 152 kilograms, is mounted on the lower fuselage of the F-15A fighter. The launcher on the wing hanger contains a test-related distance measuring device. On April 9, 1987, an AMRAAM launched at the Baisha missile test site failed to hit the QF-100 target aircraft. The failure reason has not been ascertained so far. The third in a series of recent tests carried out in the 25 flight evaluation launch plans showed that the missile possessed the ability to attack mid-altitude and high-altitude missions that were capable of implementing high-g mobile defense in emergency situations.
