改革开放以来,烟台文化事业发展虽然比较快,但却没有一处能够充分展示精神文明建设,尤其是美术事业发展成果,提高广大群众审美情趣、陶冶情操的美术展览场所。烟台于1984年被国务院公布为首批14个沿海开放城市之一,这对烟台文化发展是一个重要的历史机遇。当时在社会各界的广泛呼吁下,文化部门抓住时机向市领导提出了建设烟台美术博物馆的建议,得到了市委、市政府的有力支持。
Since the reform and opening up, although the development of cultural undertakings in Yantai has been relatively rapid, there is no one art exhibition place that can fully demonstrate the construction of spiritual civilization, especially the achievements in the development of fine arts, and enhance the aesthetic taste of the masses and mold the sentiments. Yantai was announced by the State Council in 1984 as one of the first 14 coastal open cities, which is an important historic opportunity for Yantai’s cultural development. At that time, extensive calls from all walks of life, the cultural sector seized the opportunity to propose to the city leaders to build the Yantai Art Museum, and received strong support from the municipal party committee and city government.
