Subclavian Steal Syndrome was first reported in 1961 when blood from one side of the vertebral artery was siphoned into the contralateral vertebral artery and caused basilar artery insufficiency. This “steal” phenomenon is often associated with contralateral upper extremity movement, and was thought to cause brain stem deficiency
