近一、二年,国外的DVD(Digit Video Disk)被炒得火热,认为DVD机是VCD机的替代产品,DVD机是人们组成理想家庭影院的必备家电.DVD被美国好莱坞作为电影存储媒体.由于DVD机采用MPEG-2(Motion Picture Experts Group)芯片,即采用帧、场间动态图象、声音压缩技术,使DVD机播放的图象和声音都比VCD机逼真.MPEG-2是第二代MPEG标准,于1994年月11月通过,码率为2～10Mb/S,它的基本算法同MPEG-1,但增加场间预测.1995年底由东芝、先锋、松下、JVC、日立、三菱,时代—华纳、索尼、飞利浦、SGS—汤姆逊公司共同制定DVD片规格及标准.DVD片尺寸与CD片一样,12cm(5英寸),厚度为0.6mm基片×2,最小坑长为0.4μm(CD片为0.83μm),轨迹节距为0.74μm(CD片为1.6μm),存储容量为4.7GB/面,记录时间为133分钟/面,纠错为里德索罗门乘积码(RS-PC),信号调制方式为EFM脉冲(约8/16制).
