By using XPS method the valence of thulium in ternary iodides CsTmI_3,Cs_2TmI_4,RbTmI_3 and KTmI_3 has been studied,The identification of the valence of thulium in these compounds was made by comparing the observed chemical shift of Tm4dbonding energy with those of thulium in TmI_2 and TmI_3.The results obtained indicate that the thulium in its ternary iodides hasa valence of+2.
