齿轮外经多半是用游标卡尺来测量的。如果齿轮的齿数是偶数,那末一定可以找出两个正好相对的齿,而且是通过齿轮中心的。这两个齿的齿顶之间的距离,就是齿轮的外径。因此很容易测量。如果齿轮的齿数是奇数的,那末就不可能找出正好相对的两个齿(如附图),因此就不容易准确地测量出齿轮的外径。如附图所示,图中 AC 之间的距离是齿轮的直径,但没法直接量出。所以要先测出 AB 的距离,再计算出 AC 的尺寸,才是齿轮实际的外
External gear is mostly measured by vernier caliper. If the number of gear teeth is even, then it must be able to find two exactly opposite teeth, but also through the gear center.
