1 INTRODUCTION Trench aluminum smelters have drawn great interest in recent years due to the efficiency of non-clogging sensors and the development of computer-aided systems that monitor furnaces. A more in-depth understanding of the plugging mechanism, as well as the method of improving the agitation of the metal in the inductor trench, allows the inductor to achieve a non-clogging performance without the use of gas injection or the like. Previous processes that had to bore the inductor trenches had been described in the new smelting waste drink can (UBC) trench furnace installed by Finspong Aluminum AB of Sweden as described herein
