多绳摩擦提升机具有重量轻,使用安全可靠,适用于大提升负荷、高提升速度、深井提升等特点,因此,在竖井提升中几乎代替了所有三米以上的缠绕式提升机.但由于多绳提升机是解决大矿山深井提升问题而出现的提升设备,所以一般认为中小型矿山浅井提升不适用多绳摩擦提升机,目前这些矿山还是采用传统的缠绕式提升机.近几年来中小型矿山数目迅速增加,这些矿山大多数是边探边采,竖井提升量不大,开采深度变化大,提升设备更换频繁,严重影响了矿山生产和经济效益,增加了矿山负担.
