Many authors have noted the possible role of inhaled β 2 receptor agonists and theophylline derivatives in lethal asthma, especially in younger patients, and the death of these patients is generally believed to result from inhalation of excess β 2 receptor agonists, whereas Little attention is paid to the possible role of serum potassium in lethal asthma. Studies have shown that inhaled salbutamol on serum potassium has no effect, but intravenous administration can cause serum potassium decreased significantly.
