首钢水厂选矿厂生产发展很快,原矿处理量逐年增加,尾矿量随之相应增加,使原设计的各尾矿砂泵站输送能力格外紧张,尤其是8PSJ胶泵插程(30m)不足,严重影响尾矿向尾矿坝排放,由于缓建新的5号总砂泵站(主要解决8PSJ胶泵扬程不足),为解决当前生产急需,首钢矿山公司与水电部良乡电力建设研究所及密云工业水泵厂合作,协同研究了8时、50m扬程两相流泵。1987年6月起,先后在大石河和水厂选矿厂尾矿系统进行性能标定和工业生产试验,1988年10月在水厂尾矿4号总砂泵站全面推广,达到了预期效果。
