This paper attempts to discuss the importance of context in translation from the perspective of communication.All the discussion in this paper evolves from the basic viewpoint that translation is communication in nature.The demonstration of communicative nature of translation and the analysis of the meaning to be translated serve the purpose of expounding the relation between translation and context as well as context’s significance in translation.On the basis of earlier studies on context,the definitions,classifications and functions of context are discussed in order to give some insights into the significance of context in translation.mistranslating.
