2005年6月3日上午,原湖北省武汉市市委常委、政法委书记、公安局党委书记、局长(正厅级) 杨世洪,因贪污、受贿、挪用公款,被湖北省黄石市中级人民法院一审判处死刑、缓期二年执行,剥夺政治权利终身,并处没收财产130万元。这是建国以来江城最大的官员腐败案。这个由“红小鬼”出身,为国家和社会做出过卓越贡献的老党员、掌管拥有800万人口特大城市政法大权的高级警官,在庭审中作最后陈述时,一度哽咽难语:“做人如逆水行舟,负重登山,稍有不慎,就可能走向反面。因我的腐败案损害了党在人民心目中的形象,对此我深深内疚,深感追悔莫及……”

The death penalty, suspended for two years, deprived of political rights for life, and confiscation of property 1.3 million yuan. This is the corrupt case of Jiangcheng’s largest official since the founding of the People’s Republic. The elder party member who made excellent contributions to the country and society by “Red Devils”, senior police officer in charge of the political and legal rights of a mega-city of 8 million people, once made a last-ditch statement at the trial: “Being a man I am deeply guilty and deeply regretful that my corrupt case undermined the party’s image in the minds of the people. ”
