Japan’s phytosanitary regulations have always provided: the prohibition of imports of deciduous tree fruit from countries where codling moth Laspeyresia pomonella L. occurs. Today, codling moth occurs in most parts of the world except Japan and has become a major pest of apples and pears. For other fruits, including cherries, although harmful, can not be done in British Columbia, Canada. However, in this area, appropriate prevention and control measures have been adopted for the main hosts of the species, such as apples and pears.
