In the field of railways, there are many places that require welding such as the bodywork of vehicles, the assembly of trolleys, and the long rail, and many studies have been conducted by the Institute. During welding, a great deal of thermal stress is generated due to the large amount of heat flowing into the weldment. After the welding is finished, the stress remains in the weldment. This residual stress affects the strength of the weld. In view of such welding problems, numerical analysis has been widely conducted in various fields using the finite element method and the like recently. This method has the power to resolve the difficult temperature distribution and stress distribution. Unfortunately, however, the status quo in the field of railways has not been carried out until recently
