The present study investigated the seasonal variation and regulation of prostaglandins (PGs) in the ovary and hemolymph of Patinopecten yessoensis to elucidate the role of PGs in sexual maturation and oviposition. From October 1987 to June 1988, about 40 2-year-old scallops were randomly collected, with an average length of 11.8 cm, for use as an experiment. 1.0g of ovarian tissue was taken from each scallop and 10ml of haemolymph from 3 to 5 scallop hearts to extract PGs. PGs content was determined by reverse phase HPLC method proposed by Kiyomiya et al. In vivo experiments, 100 μg of 17β-estradiol (E_2) was made into a 0.2 ml suspension
