“211工程”是我国高等教育为迎接21世纪的挑战,适应现代化建设事业的需要而建立的一项跨世纪的战略性工程.其基本内容除重点建设一百所高等学校和一批重点学科之外,还包括优先建设三大公共服务体系,其中的高校“文献信息资源共享服务系统”是“211工程”公共服务体系的重要组成部分.其总体目标是以中国教育与科研网(CERNET)为依托,建立文献信息资源子网,以全国性和地区性文献信息中心为节点,形成多层次、多类型,用现代通信网络连成一体的,面向全国高等学校的文献信息共享服务系统.该系统的建立,将加速我国高校图书馆从传统的单一型图书馆向现代化多功能图书馆的方向发展,它不仅给我国高校图书馆自动化建设带来了前所未有的发展机遇,也提出了新的要求和严峻的挑战.
