2009年9月,根据新疆维吾尔自治区人民政府申请,国家教育督导团检查组对新疆进行了“两基”国检。检查组认为,新疆“两基”主要指标达到了规定的标准。新疆自1995年启动“两基”工作以来,自治区党委、政府高度重视,始终把实现“两基”目标作为教育工作的重中之重来抓。正如教育部部长周济在新疆接受国家“两基”督导检查总结大会上指出的,在占全国六分之一面积的边疆民族地区实现“两基”目标,无论是在新疆还是全国教育发展史上,都将留下浓墨重彩的一笔,不仅是新疆教育发展史上的一个重要里程碑,也是全国“两基”攻坚进程中的标志性事件,已经和必将继续为新疆经济社会发展,为维护边疆长治久安、民族团结繁荣奠定坚实的基础,也是对境内外敌对势力企图破坏新疆和谐稳定的有力回击。这一期,就让我们回顾新疆“两基”攻坚走过的艰苦奋斗的历程,体味宝贵的“两基”攻坚精神。
