Objective: To investigate the relationship between metastasis suppressor gene nm23 and transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. Methods: Northern blot was used to analyze the expression of nm23-H1 and nm23-H2 genes in 12 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma and 6 cases of non-cancerous para-cancerous bladder mucosa. Results: The expression of nm23-H1mRNA in bladder transitional cell carcinoma was significantly higher than that in para-cancerous bladder mucosa, while the expression of nm23-H1mRNA in bladder transitional cell carcinoma with pelvic lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than that without pelvic lymph node metastasis (P <0 .05), while the expression of nm23-H2mRNA in each group had no significant difference. Conclusion: The nm23 gene plays an important role in the metastasis of bladder transitional cell carcinoma.
