超大型设置基础是我国目前跨海桥梁尚在研究的基础形式之一,而铺设碎石垫层则是优先考虑的水下地基处理方法,结合国外既有的超大型设置基础工程实例,着重分析了碎石垫层的三种典型用途:碎石垫层可以用来提高地基承载力、减小沉降,这是换填法的基本特点所在;形状经过特别设计的楔形碎石床可以控制地基的破坏模式,避免沿垫层与土体交界面的整体滑动;强度被有意“削弱”后的砂—卵石—碎石垫层可用作隔震层(“延性构件”),在强震作用下率先屈服(产生“塑性铰”),对基础和上部结构形成保护。
