经考证,“五四运动”这个名词首见于1919年5月18日北京学生的总罢课宣言。8天之后,被新潮社骨干罗家伦在《五四运动的精神》一文中沿用。当年6月,这个名词已被普遍使用。这是一场爱国的政治运动。而五四新文化运动,则有学者以1915年《青年杂志》和《科学》杂志的创刊为上限,以1923年科学与玄学的论争平息为下限,西方人称之为“中国的文艺复兴(The ChineseRenaissance)”。这是一场对民族文化进行批判和创新的运动。90年前5月4日这一天,以北京大学为主体的13所学校约3000名学生齐集天安门,抗议巴黎和会决定将第一次世界大战中战败国德国在山东的权益转让给日本。学生手执白旗,上而写着“还我青岛”“保我主权”“取消21条”等标语口号。会场散发的《北京学界全体宣言》发出了气壮山河的呼声:“中国的土地可
