朝阳地区造林树种单纯,当前已成林的主要树种是油松、刺槐纯林。刺槐又受气候条件的限制,仍是成林不成材的半上山树种。山杨(Populus davidiaria Dode)生长快,适应性强,是撩荒地和采伐及火烧迹地上的先锋树种并常形成块状纯林。在全区各县的山区均有分布。如能做为山地造林树种,进行人工造林,是有重大意义的。作者自一九六五年开始对山杨的有性繁殖技术进行了调查研究,实践证明有性繁殖造林很好,现整理如下:
