This article revisits the progress of replacing conventional heat treatment at some steel forgings at a reasonable cost-benefit. These steels include microalloyed steels, carbon steels and carbon and alloy steels that have been forged or post-controlled for cooling to normalized or quenched grades that have been successfully used in a wide range of automotive components such as crankshafts , Connecting rod and steering arm.
